To be fair on Zoom they are not the only one out there with some challenges. Zoom’s default was no password for meetings new but there are still others that have this as default (you should always set a password and most services have this function, Zoom included). With any video conferencing service there are some basics you should be aware of and ensure you apply, just like you first get a license to drive car before you jump in.
So yes Jitsi Meet has an excellent offering too but if you are paranoid about anyone accessing your meetings then rather self-host it yourself, because you can at no cost.
