If AMD is good enough for Linus Torvalds its good enough for me – Now on an AMD Ryzon 7 3700X CPU

This third gen AMD has got more cores & threads (with higher default clock speed) and gaming L3 cache than the Intel Core i5-9400F that I was considering (in fairness the AMD is more similar to an Intel Core i7-9700K but still beats that). Geekbench 5’s benchmarks show the AMD at 30% faster on single-core than the Intel and just under double the benchmark for multi-core processing. It also supports slightly faster DDR4 memory and memory throughput.

So far its flying with the gaming I do, and I can see noticeable improvements in FPS over my older Core i7 3770 which is about 8 years old.

The CPU is factory unlocked for unlimited overclocking and comes standard with AMD’s top-of-the-line “AMD Wraith Prism cooler, which features four copper heat pipes and a downward firing fan. The Wraith Prism also offers two modes; “L” mode is rated for 116w and operates at 2,800 rpm, and “H” mode can dissipate 124w of heat and operates at 3,600 rpm (with a bit more noise).
