Steam Locomotives 60009 Union of South Africa & 70000 Britannia at York in the UK on 7th March 2020

60009 Union of South Africa is an LNER Class A4 steam locomotive built at Doncaster Works in 1937. It is one of six surviving A4s, and is currently operational and mainline certified. Britannia was built at Crewe, completed on 2 January 1951. She was the first British Railways standard locomotive to be built and the first of 55 locomotives of the Britannia class.

They’re not environmentally friendly but are real crowd drawers as is seen in this video. It’s good that the UK is really serious about preserving these monuments to retro-engineering and that they can still be operating today.
