Nokia E90 Communicator

Sold and was replaced with Apple iPhone 3GS

Nokia E90 Communicator phone – with WiFi connectivity and built in GPS and 3.2mpixel camera. My phone connected to my car via a Parrot 3200 LS-Colour Bluetooth car kit. My favourite applications that I used on the phone were:

  • Fring – 3G and WiFi mobile VoIP telephony and instant messaging, integration with Skype, Google Talk, MSN Messenger and SIP networks. Can make SkypeOut voice.
  • Nimbuzz – using this instead of Fring right now as it can “buzz” offline Nimbuzz buddies to alert them of a message. Does not do VoIP calls but does do teleconference to local country numbers. Connects to Aim, GTalk, MSN Messenger, Yahoo and also does group chats. Now also had widgets that plug into MySpace, Facebook, etc.
  • GMail – Java app that allows good functionality.
  • SMS Chat – groups received and sent messages in a single thread for each recipient.
  • Shozu – free service for your phone that makes it incredibly easy to send and receive photos, videos and music while you’re on the move. Will even auto upload photos as they are captured.
  • WidSets – WidSets brings you information normally accessed via the Internet, directly into your mobile phone. Using mini-applications called widgets, it sends you updates made to your favourite websites. The system uses RSS feeds to push information from these websites directly into your mobile phone the minute they’re updated.
  • WorldMate – support for travellers for weather forecasts, currency, day/night map, flight schedules, etc.
  • Mobile GMaps – displays Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, MSN Live, OpenStreet Map, and Ask.com along with associated satellite views. Integrates with Bluetooth or built-in GPS and tracks on map. Can save places. Shows bandwidth usage. Can view Google Earth KML files, subway maps, Wikimapia, FON and traffic info. Does Google Map searches and shows routes. NOTE: Google has requested that Google Maps be disabled in the latest version.
  • Calcium – normal and RPN calculator. Uses joystick button for one-handed operation. Good replacement for the clumsy calculator that ships with the device.
  • Wireless18 – keep track of golf scores and handicaps while playing for up to four players.
  • SpyManager – home video surveillance, it allows you to capture snapshots and to send them by Bluetooth to another phone or by email and receive snapshots from the webcam of your PC. Even has support for mobile’s secondary camera.
  • TotalRecall – easily record all or just some of your calls. Uses super memory light AMR format, so you can literally record thousands of hours of calls on today’s modern memory cards. And best of all, no pesky beep while recording!
  • Phone Guardian – mobile security anti thief software for your Series 60 v3 Symbian smartphones. In case your mobile is forgotten or stolen, Phone Guardian will allow you to remotely secure and auto lock your Symbian mobile by sending a lock SMS. Operator specific and location information is automatically sent to the number specified, including the number of SIM, IMSI and CellID numbers.
  • Media Safe – Keeps photo/audio/video/note files secure and on your mobile phone. Protect your important media files!
  • cCam – silences the camera shutter sound as well as the flash on S60 camera phones.
  • Tracker – real and fully customizable desktop application designed to help a user to optimize, simplify and organize most common everyday actions. Hundreds of unique functions and possibilities transform your device from a simple organizer to a powerful and great looking handheld computer.
  • Mobiz Livefeeder – advanced RSS newsreader. The application can run full screen or in ticker mode, which can be resized and moved around the screen. Mobiz LiveFeeder supports Wifi and mobile network connections and can switch them automatically.
  • Psiloc GSync (only connecting on my E90 using WiFi) – allows you to automatically archive all your SMS and MMS messages on the Gmail™ account. The SMS/MMS messages appear as e-mails, are marked as read and labelled as SMS/MMS. Messages exchanged with same people are grouped into threads. You can configure how often messages are archived. You can then use GMail to search through all your SMS messages and view them in message threads.
  • ActiveFile – Free program to browse all folders and files in your Symbian 9 mobile phones, including open threads and processes which can be killed. It will also monitor RAM usage of programs.
  • Handy Profiles – automatically switches profiles according to the rules you set based on location (cells), time interval or calendar entry rule. See also Best Profiles which lacks the location based rule but has some other really advanced rules.
  • KeePass for J2ME – Java based version of KeePass password manager. Allows me to securely carry my passwords around with me (copied from the desktop PC version).
