Picturesque Chart Farm situated in the heart of the Southern Suburbs near Wynberg Park in Cape Town, offers a farm-style retreat from the city. Chart Farm prides itself on being the only place in the Cape Peninsula where you can select and pick your own roses. This historic farm currently has over 12 hectares of arable land where you will find their English style rose garden, grape vines, lemon trees, farm stall, coffee shop, and horse riding with panoramic views stretching all the way to False Bay. We went up on 10 Oct 2022. A South African citizen can get one free return trip during their birthday month. Apart from walking around the flat table-top and enjoying the amazing views in all directions, one can also eat at the restaurant, or buy curios or even hike down to the reservoirs. New shopping mall that opened around Nov/December 2024, next to the new Amazon headquarters in Cape Town. Apart from the shopping and restaurants, there is a two-hectare Eco Park with 6kms of heritage eco-trails and runnings tracks – see https://riverlands.capetown/nature. We visited on 10 October 2025. The restaurant is on the R45 in Simondium-Paarl (near Paarl) about 45 minutes drive from Cape Town. Unfortunately there were roadworks on the go, and a new building going up next door, so there was some noise and dust that would not normally be there. The gardens are beautiful and they also have their gin distillery there which you can visit for tastings and purchases. Apart from the distillery, the other claim to fame is the Pinsa pizza bases. On our way back we also stopped at the Chocolate Room at the Spice Route Destination, where there is another Pappa Grappa restaurant. View photos full screen to see the captions and dates.
Over 1,200 photos collected from various sources that I have found over the years covering the greater Cape Town and Worcester areas. I’m putting them here so they will be more searchable by location and chronological order. Some date back to the 1860s. View photos full screen to see the captions and dates.
We had a braai at the picnic area on 10 September 2026, and then took a walk through the gardens adjacent to the picnic area. Entrance is completely free of charge. No music is allowed, so your experience is quite peaceful here. After that we took the Jimny up the gravel road to the top of the mountain where we saw another walkway leading to the very top, and also an old VOC signal canon dating back to the 1700s. On the way home we did a quick stop at the Spice Route Destination to buy some craft chocolate, see the CBC craft brewery, and have coffee, before returning home. Do need to add the picnic area as well as the bathrooms were all spotlessly clean, and there is a security guard stationed at the entrance by the parking area. The flowers were starting to bloom, and even though it was a bit overcast, the flowers, and the views were stunning. Lots of benches are also placed along the walks, often under shady trees.
