Being able to read things quickly is great, but only if you’re able to comprehend what you’re reading. Blazing through 200 pages of reading in an hour or two is certainly impressive, but if you don’t remember anything you’ve read then it’s also kind of pointless.
Research has shown that the average reader can handle reading 200 words per minute with a 60% comprehension rate if they’re reading words on a traditional page left to right. If you want to comprehend more, you’ll need to slow that pace down or try reading in a different way.
If you instead read just one word at a time, you can bump up that word-per-minute number by reading just one word at a time.
Obviously, you can’t do this with a paper book but an eBook could be displayed in this manner. I managed to get to 351 words per minute but I suppose going faster will just need a bit more practice. I tend to read normal text in a sort of zig-zag fashion so don’t move my eyes fully to each side of the text in a book. It’s probably about practice making perfect for whatever method you use.
