Apple’s plan to scan iPhones for child porn worries some security experts, Not to mention Facebook’s scanning encrypted WhatsApp messages

Two worrying trends emerging here. It’s true that Apple has access to iCloud data but often such neural matching is not 100%, and that is why there are human reviewers who will then access and view your photos to double-check. So just remember, if you back up your personal photos from an iPhone to iCloud, they will be more "exposed" than before. If you disable that backup, they "should" be safe on the phone, and you can back them up locally to your computer.

Second thing is Facebook won’t be cracking your encrypted WhatsApp message content, but they’ll be trying to get matches against patterns of content, and obviously have your metadata (you accepted their privacy policy) so they can match those patterns to who you are, your phone number, your IP address, and your location at any time. Remember, Facebook’s primary driver is selling adverts, not providing their users with a social network.
