Acceleration on an electric scooter can be quite quick but the 70km range for the entry level model may be a bit tight for many. The top speed of 94km/h is pretty much on par with my 125cc petrol scooter.
The difference comes in with running costs: A full charge for the 2.9kWh nickel cobalt manganese battery takes about eight hours from a domestic 220 volt supply, and costs less than R5. My petrol scooter is 2L per 80km = R26. So 5x cheaper is not bad and remember that there are no filters or lubricants to change when servicing.
The top end Lightning NX: Higher power and 20% longer range with their biggest battery. Lightning NX offers 300cc equivalent power with a 7.2 kWh long life Lithium battery. Top speed is 120 km/h and average range is 150 km. Charge rate is 30 km/h, charge time from flat is 5 hours and opportunity charging is supported.

It’s very easy to dismiss an entry-level electric scooter such as the Spark 3 NX as a motorcycling non-starter. Don’t.
