This is a pretty good summary of the key announcements, including:
- Satellite messaging with Globalstar for emergencies, but only in USA and Canada. Seeing it involves new satellites going up, I’m not sure if/when others will get this.
- eSIM only in USA – good move as everyone needs to catch up.
- Apple Watch now has temperature sensors – good news for fertility management, but also hopefully also for early detection of illnesses (although no mention about the latter).
- Apple Watch battery life is better (I already get 48 hours, so this 36 hours could mean 3 days for me) but I also like the Low Power mode vs existing Reserve Power mode.
Non-News for me:
- AirPods still have no battery replacements, so must be disposed of after two years.
- The Notch is now a “Dynamic Island” – it’s PR, but I suppose it will be a bit slicker in usage.
- Apple Watch Ultra – nice watch actually, but it costs the same as an entire iPhone 14 device.
I’m really not tempted to move off my iPhone 12 Pro yet at all, but I may think about a Watch Series 8, although I’m considering hanging on for another release cycle to see if the standard versions also get a slightly larger screen size.
