Barrier is a fork from when Synergy decided to go commercial many years back. The power of forking is that if an open source project is abandoned, stagnates or changes to commercial, the fork can continue if someone supports it (much like LibreOffice was forked from OpenOffice).
Barrier’s chief purpose is where you may have multiple physical computers (same or different operating systems) you can use a single mouse and keyboard to operate across them. It saves a lot of clutter from your desk.
