Don’t let Google or Bing dictate mapping to you – Get involved in OpenStreetMap and contribute indigenous languages and your local points of interest

Many are not happy about the data mining, privacy implications, or advertising that the big tech companies leverage out of their mapping offerings, but we do have a free alternative where we can ourselves directly contribute to improving mapping and navigation in our own local areas which we know best. It’s an open opportunity for locals to add their languages and highlight points of specific interest that locals know about.

There are also a number of mobile apps that use data from OpenStreetMap (OSM) instead of Google or Bing. The more we improve our own areas, the better the data for everyone to use.
