It is so easy to be hooked by clickbait headlines that assert the blame lies with one thing, when in fact there is a lot more behind the story and broader context that is needed.
The linked article below unpacks a bit more of what happened with California’s recent 5-minute energy emergency, and much like the Texas cold-freeze issue, it turns out again the fault was not with EVs.
It’s true, though, that as more EVs get vehicle-to-grid capability, they will actively be able to assist with such short-term crisis. Seems that Yahoo Finance did actually unpack what happened in California, and it related to faulty algorithms for their grid storage batteries.
But EVs should mostly be charging at night anyway, unless some is busy with long distance travel during the day. Properly used they will become a major asset to grids in the future.
