Filemail – free service to transfer up to 50GB files
Firstly its a lot bigger than Dropbox or GDrive allows but this type of service is great for very large files you need to share with a few people who must receive the file now or within a few days (it will auto-delete the file after 7 days). If you want to be really secure you could put your file/s in a password protected ZIP or RAR file before uploading.
What is nice about this service is that the uploads and downloads run at full speed. This is not intended for long term availability (unless you take a paid service) but is intended to stand in place of when you'd normally attach files to an e-mail to send to someone.
It's not a unique service and if you look around you'll find a few others. There are also some based on open source code, but it's the hosting service many need and not the code.
