Garmin takes aim at Apple Watch and Fitbit with new Vivoactive 3
From an early look perspective, it looks like Garmin is hitting the sweet spot here with their smart watch offerings. This is far more of what I expect a smart watch to do than has been apparent with Fitbit's Ionic. Garmin has the battery life, the apps, the watch faces and the look that I would expect to see.
Both Garmin and Fitbit are approaching their smart watch offerings from their fitness pedigrees that they have built up. It just looks to me like Garmin has been really creative in terms of trying to match the two (real fitness and smart watch) versus Fitbit which seems very much restrained by its past.
Garmin may not be Android Wear, but it has both Android and iOS apps that manage its integration with the phones. It all depends on what the range and quality of the apps are that are on offer, and what you need to use on your wrist.
