Though the procedure is usually done via colonoscopy, in recent years scientists have developed frozen pills that do the same thing. In a study published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association (https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/2664458), researchers found that the two methods were just as effective after 12 weeks. Patients might have to take a lot of pills for the therapy to work, but it’s still less painful and uncomfortable than an invasive procedure, which can cost $3,000 out of pocket.
