Google's Allo web chat now works in browsers other than Chrome
Allo is now at least more portable for use but is tied to the phone for registering (like Whatsapp and Telegram). In August it would not operate without the phone present at all (like Telegram does do). Whilst it is a really fun chat app and I like the Google Assistant integration, can it be used for more serious use at work when I don't see 10,000 user channels/groups?
There is group chat (with an incognito mode option)but it seems more to invite a few existing contacts to a chat. What I'm not seeing are channels like Telegram has where users can have a URL and request access to that channel. That said Allo still ventures into a niche area with Assistant where none of the other services have really gone (I only look at cross-platform services that run across different OSs and devices). At least it does not have all the spam I was getting on Hangouts.
You can access browser webchat via https://allo.google.com/web.
