A practical guide below to getting most commonly used services and apps running. In many cases there are good alternatives to Google apps too (such as maps) and some methods include using with mobile site with a desktop link. Another alternative is to use 3rd party app stores such as F-Droid, and more experienced Android users will quite easily side-load APK files to run the apps themselves.
But its also a good wakeup call to many users to become familiar with good alternatives and not only look to Google for apps eg. in my opinion the Authy app is way better than Google’s own Authenticator app and does everything Google does but much more. Don’t get caught in a rut.
