KFC launches their first high-tech restaurant in Pinelands, Cape Town, South Africa

KFC

The fast food giant said its revamped (actually no, it was a new construction and site) Pinelands restaurant was designed to make customer service quicker, easier and seamless.

First, the store features digital menu boards in a dual-lane drive-thru — a first for KFC in Africa. Furthermore, KFC said the restaurant uses the latest connected kitchen technology to ensure it maintains the correct amount of stock at all times, and better quality management.

To be honest, though, there is really nothing “new” as far as restaurants go. It is more about KFC modernising their ordering process and stock management. Starbucks, Vida eCafe and others have ordering ahead from their mobile app, before you even get to the restaurant.

Twenty-five people being employed for such a small fast-food outlet suggests there is still just as much labour involved. One would expect with a high-tech process and connected kitchen, that there is no longer any need for one body to take the orders any more, and you’d have a fast queue to just collect your order.

I need to visit the actual restaurant, as it is nearby, and then “eat” my words if it has some really new fangled tech that has not been mentioned… watch this space.
