Kiki – A Cute AI Robot that Learns from You – Created by two ex-Googlers on Kickstarter for $799

39 Days to go and $74,401 of the $100,000 goal is raised already (any Kickstarter project carries risks of not making it). Kiki is not intended to be a smart home speaker so no stock prices or weather, and it is intended to be more like a pet responding to touch, vision and audio, and mimicking emotions.

We’ve seen many pet type robots before but yes they’ve been advancing bit by bit and of course, now include the mention of artificial intelligence in what they do. What it means is the behaviour is becoming more and more refined as sensors, compute ability and software get better and better. Personally, I still want a talking cat that knows when to keep quiet!

But I do see a trend in future of more and more pet and companion type robots as people grow more socially isolated in the connected world (ironic isn’t it). People may scoff, but many people lose their sense of reality when then robots respond to them and although the mind may know it’s not real, but it probably wants it to be real. Experiments done a while ago about companion robots that were deliberately "killed" found that this evoked intense emotions amongst their human owners.

Kiki does not tell you the weather or the stock price, but Kiki has a growing personality like Eevee, that is adapting to her owners.
