Linux Directory structure explained : A reference guide

When we install a Linux distribution, we see that a number of directories are created. These created directories may be the same or partially different on various Linux distributions. You might know about the directory structures and what purpose they serve, instead of blindly searching around for something.

A lot of configuration files also sit in the user’s home directory under .config or .local. I also recall hearing a while back that the /usr directory which is commonly thought to be named for ‘user’ in fact does not stand for that at all, as it was used as a general purpose directory originally.

Another famous saying I remember from my Linux course days was "everything is a file" in Linux so a directory is also just a type of file, and that makes it easier to understand why and how the permissions work.
