The UK’s first 24/7 zero emission street is coming, the City of London Corporation has announced. Set for Beech Street in London, most of the road runs underneath the Barbican Estate, a Brutalist building in the city’s centre which has been dubbed "Britain’s ugliest building."
By spring 2020, the street will be restricted to zero emission vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
If you happen to take the 153 bus route (which runs down Beech Street), fear not: this bus route is fully electric and therefore not affected by the change.
If this is successful (which there is little reason why it should not be) we can expect to see more zero emission streets (with less traffic) which is going to make zero emission vehicles more popular.
