Make most remote controlled garage doors smart with a Garadget (operates and monitors) which can integrate with your home automation too

Many 3rd world countries don’t have legislation requiring post-1993 safety monitoring so devices like the Chamberlain myQ often won’t work. The Garadget works with a plain wired connection to the door opener (any opener that allows a wired wall button) to trigger opening or closing via the app, and an integrated laser which points at a patch on the door to sense whether it is open or closed.

I’m wary nowadays about proprietary cloud providers who discontinue support so it’s good to know that although it can connect via Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa/Echo and its cloud service, it also supports IFTTT, MQTT, SmartThings, OpenHab, Home Assistant, REST API, and other alternatives. This means it can operate independently of its own cloud service. With HA for example you can set up all sorts of rules.

Basic functionality therefore will be:
* Opening/Closing the door via the app.
* Checking remotely if door is open/closed.
* Being alerted remotely that the door is being opening.
* Being alerted remotely that the door was left open after a time.

This item is around US$90 and there are other similar devices such as the meross (half the price but uses a wired magnetic switch to sense door opening and I don’t see MQTT etc compatibility) and the AGSHOME opener (also wired sensor but no mention of MQTT support).
