Telkom LIT TV streaming video platform unveiled with zero rated data
Telkom has unveiled LIT, a media platform for its subscribers that gives them access to streaming video and music content.
Mobile subscribers on its FreeMe 2GB contracts and up can stream content from certain partners for free, while its higher-end customers can look forward to an offering called LIT TV.
LIT TV from Telkom lets you stream shows, movies, and music at home without depleting your data.
The content partners on LIT at launch are:
– Google Play Music and Movies
– iTunes and Apple Music
– Netflix
– Showmax
– DSTV Online
– YouTube
– Simfy Africa
SmartBroadband Wireless 50GB and 100GB packages will also include the media box on a promotion, while stocks last. The media box is also available separately for R49.99 per month for 24 months, or at an outright purchase of R1,099.
Telkom LIT TV will be launched alongside the company’s Summer Campaign in September.
"So we will know more about it from 1 September but it does show this is not the Telkom of yesteryear…. It also heralds the advent of ISP's leveraging off YV and movie streaming going mainstream. One can only wonder how this will further affect the SABC. The moment my 3D TV finally packs up, that will be the end of my SABC TV license. Since I bought this TV a few years back, it has only been connected to the Internet and has never seen any broadcast TV antennae near it."
