Mastodon (a Twitter-like clone) allows anyone to establish and manage their own node, which could allow their fans to also join up at that same node. Then a celeb is managing their own messaging platform (by their rules) and anyone else in the Fediverse can follow them, even if they do not belong to that same node or even network (users can post and follow from Friendica, Hubzilla, and other networks too because they all play nicely together).
If a high-profile celeb leaves Twitter and sets up their own Mastodon node, I’m pretty sure thousands or even millions of their fans would either join that same node, or follow from wherever they choose to. Their posts would still be reported in the media and reshared etc. Just don’t tell Donald Trump as he may realise there is no-one there then to paste warnings on his ‘tweets’ as he would manage his own platform.
We all have the choices we can easily make, so its up to us to decide if we want to make choices, or do we just stay with the same network and moan about how it abuses us? Mastodon is Twitter but with more freedoms…
