Use your contactless bank card to ride the Gautrain – Yes Anything for Carrying Fewer Dedicated Cards!
Bombela has implemented a pilot project for using contactless bank cards on the Gautrain and linked services. The programme is currently testing the viability of using bank cards on the station’s tap-and-go card readers instead of a dedicated Gautrain card. This would remove the need to carry a Gautrain card, as users can tap their bank card on the service’s card readers.
The fare is deducted from your bank account when you tap the reader at your destination, and users are charged the same way as when making a retail purchase.
If the system is implemented successfully, the Gautrain will become one of the first public transport systems to accept contactless bank cards as payment, said Bombela.
