Whoogle – The Anonymous Self-Hosted Google Alternative – Installs Easily With Docker On Any Self-Hosted NAS or VPS

While I’ve been busy exploring 80+ easy-to-install services on my OpenMediaVault NAS at home (video coming soon), I just noticed Whoogle is one of the options. Of course, it can also be installed on a virtual private server or other place you can deploy containers.

Whoogle can become your own local search engine that frees you from all the adverts, cookies, URL tracking, referrer headers, javascript, user agent tracking, etc provided by Google’s own search pages. It is a bit like having your own personal version of DuckDuckGo search engine.

It anonymises your searches through a Google search UI so is not making use of other search engines like Searx does, but then it does not have the complexity of installation that Searx may require. ‘You get Google, Without having Google…’.
