Facebook unknowingly shared data from private groups – Point is they should have had the checks in place

Facebook Inc. said it unknowingly gave outside developers access to private user information shared within some groups on its main social network, including the names and profile photos of people who were part of those groups.

Facebook is either reckless or very negligent when it comes to protecting users privacy. It’s a new story every month. It does not look like it will ever be truly fixed so it is up to users themselves to decide where they put their trust. There are lots of good alternatives, and as I realized if my family wants to stay on Facebook that is fine, but I moved my personal profile elsewhere and my family is welcome to follow me there if they want to. But I’m not going to be held ransom by family and friends. There is no shortage of followers on other networks.
