How to patch your devices against the KRACK Wi-Fi vulnerability right now
The vulnerability lies with the WPA2 WiFi protocol which is just about every WiFi hotspot or home Wifi in existence. The protocol can't really be fixed as it means a WPA3 protocol which every device on earth will need an update first to connect to.
So the patching is taking place at the device level with Microsoft, Apple, Google, Linux and others releasing firmware updates. Most have released patches and I see Manjaro Linux released theirs today. But what is at risk is many home routers and Android phones which are not automatically checking for updates. The older Android phones (think Chinese no-name brands) are a lost cause as many have long stopped receiving updates of any kind. Google Nexus and Pixel phones will get their security patch on 6 Nov, with other Android OEMs following after that. For home routers and mobile hotspots you need to check yourself if your device is getting updates, or otherwise download the latest (this week) update and flash it yourself.
