New hack could keep Windows 7 alive for years after 14 Jan 2020 cut-off… Or you could install free Linux and end the stress

A newly-developed tool could allow Windows 7 users to receive essential updates years after official support is ended, Softpedia News reports. Microsoft’s operating system will reach the end of its support lifecycle on 14 January 2020, which effectively cuts Windows 7 users off from critical security updates and other patches.

MyDigitalLife users have created a tool which circumvents this process, letting any Windows 7 device receive these updates, which would normally only be available to paying users.

I don’t use Windows so could not test it myself but I see others reporting success on the forum. The usual disclaimer applies that installing anything like this from unknown sources could be pretty risky and having a proper backup of all your data is always advised. With a rolling distro like Manjaro Linux I just keep getting patches and security updates on a daily basis with no need to reinstall or "update".
