Your Professional Decline Is Coming (Much) Sooner Than You Think And Most Motivational Books Deal With Your Ascent To Success

An interesting read as all careers have their peak. All good things come to an end as the saying goes, and then what happens if you defined your life by having your career? For sports stars that end is even sooner than for most other people.

But like physical ability, mental ability also declines over time, and for some careers that is worse for the individual than others. The biggest mistake professionally successful people make is attempting to sustain peak accomplishment indefinitely, trying to make use of the kind of fluid intelligence that begins fading relatively early in life. This is impossible.

To move from résumé virtues to eulogy virtues is to move from activities focused on the self to activities focused on others. Fortunately, an effort to serve others can play to our strengths as we age. Remember, people whose work focuses on teaching or mentorship, broadly defined, peak later in life. And don’t thing ‘age’ is 70+ as the ages of 30 to 50 are being described as the passing peaks.
