An electric City Tramways Trolleybus operating in Cape Town in 1961
As the brand new battery-electric MyCiti buses start to make their appearance in Cape Town, let's not forget that up to about 1964 we still had fully electric silent/clean trolleybuses (or trackless trams) operating in Cape Town.
I was too young to remember these trolleybuses in Cape Town but I do remember riding in them in Johannesburg where they only disappeared finally in the middle 1980's. See some interesting recollections here by a conductor and driver at http://www.khanya.org.za/trolley1.htm.
