Cape Town just got hit by two minor earthquakes over the last 24 hours – one remote one yesterday and this morning by a localised one. These are generally rare events for Cape Town but with a nuclear power station right on our door step we tend to be wary (although it is supposed to withstand a strength 7 ML earthquake).
So it is interesting to know that Google rolled out a Play Store update for their Earthquake Alerts System for detection across all Android phones. As far as I know though their ShakeAlert app only alerts those in California.
Still, there are some other apps, one or two of which also do detection which works on crowdsourced data.
