After nearly 35 years in full time government service I retired today and have a new long road ahead of me – my road

I’ve dedicated nearly 35 years of flat out work and passion for service delivery and technology in government. It’s been a great journey for me, and has rewarded me well, but it has also enabled me to retire early and now find more time for what I really am passionate about (after I’ve cleaned the shed out, fixed the roof, etc).

So more time now for blogging about technology, more time to do motorcycle rides into rural South Africa with my wife, more time to advocate use of open source software for government, and many other things.

Some of these will reveal themselves through my posts as things unfold.

It was a great final day today seeing my current colleagues, many old colleagues and clients who came by to say goodbye, and also some phone calls I received from around the country from colleagues and clients nationally. It’s not goodbye though as I may not physically be constrained in an office any more but I’ll be spreading more knowledge than even before as I have time to learn and experience new things.

So here’s to the next 25 years of new experiences with a new road stretching ahead!
