Whilst traditional shaving is hands-down cheaper and better for the environment in most aspects versus cartridge razors and tinned gels, one sore point that still stands out is the perception around the use of badger hair brushes (horse hair is animal-friendly).
In the past, such brushes were undoubtedly the very best you could get, but the picture has changed quite dramatically now, with many excellent synthetic fibre brushes being available. In my own experience, I bought what I thought was a boar hair brush, only to hear a year later it was in fact a synthetic fibre brush that looked and worked the same (I thought the lack of smell was because it was bleached).
