BMW is finally rolling out the Android Auto update over the air – Because many dealers require a trip to the dealership for every update

BMW was one of the last automakers to add Android Auto to its vehicles (actually no, Toyota South Africa still has not done so), and owners with compatible cars still have to go to the dealer to get the update. That’s changing soon, though; BMW has just announced that an over-the-air update will start rolling out "over the coming weeks."

Car manufacturers are notorious for not updating software and usually require the car to come in for anything to be done. Maybe my experience with Toyota SA is just bad, but I’ve asked for years for radio software updates and never received one (how is that possible?). Yes I’m buying a new car next week and after 30 years of buying Toyota’s the next one is likely to be a Hyundai with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay all ready to go.
