How to install DroidStar on iPhone to Rx/Tx on D-STAR, DMR, Fusion YSF/FCS, NXDN, P25, M17, and IAX (AllStar client) over UDP for Ham Radio digital modes

Android users have had the Droid-Star app for this purpose for quite a while but recently a beta version for iOS has surfaced which can be tried by ham radio operators on the iPhone. The video below takes you through the steps to install it via the Test Flight app.

Just to note for DMR you need to have also created (under SelfCare on the Brandmeister website in your Profile) a password by HotSpot security after enabling that setting. This password must be set inside this app’s settings too. The Tx button is a toggle button so you need to kerchunk it (tap twice) to register in the Talk Group.

Interesting that this iOS version is a branch off the DUDE-Star Github project and that main branch can also compile to work on Linux, Raspberry Pi and MacOS (with Windows executable only downloads under Releases in the project).

UPDATE: The TestFlight invite link for DroidStar now appears to be https://testflight.apple.com/join/bYvpb8nG. The project is at https://github.com/nostar/DroidStar but they have no help on installing it for iOS so best is still to watch the video linked below. The Vocoder sound module was removed from the software due to licensing issues, so for sound you’ll also need to go to Settings in the app, and enable the Vocoder by downloading it. I got the Vocoder for iOS from this link at https://web.archive.org/web/20220125032857/http://pizzanbeer.net/plugins/vocoder_plugin.ios.arm64.
