Etherpad is a web-based real-time online editor that allows writers to simultaneously edit a text document and monitor all edits in realtime. There does exist many hosted version of Etherpad out on the Internet but hosting it in your own organisation is one way of ensuring full privacy and availability (Internet sites sometimes disappear or get shut down, even Google ones).
