There are really very few suppliers of wet shaving equipment in South Africa. They are so few that I could list nearly all of them on my website page about wet shaving. Some of those companies have also disappeared during Covid. It is a great pity as South Africans really don’t seem to have re-discovered traditional wet shaving like those in the USA, UK, Australia and other countries where local suppliers are crafting shaving soaps as well as razors, blades, etc.
Most like myself, who have tried shaving with a single razor or a double edge razor, have been pleasantly surprised to find it not only cheaper in the long run, but better for the skin, and also more environmentally friendly.
So it is time I posted about River Valley Trading as they have been trading a number of years, importing some of the best wet shaving equipment around. It is not only well known brand names but also a wide selection of more budget friendly equipment as well. They even have sampler razor blade packs (very important for first time buyers, as your skin type and razor work differently with different blades, so no single blade is just the best blade for everyone).
Prices are excellent value too. I did a quick double check before ordering my latest 100-blade pack of Astra blades, and their price is basically the same as importing direct from Amazon with shipping and VAT. The difference is you could add a second or third pack at no extra cost for shipping. It’s a win-win, and you’re supporting a local entrepreneur.
So, for example, my 100-blade pack will last me 100 weeks (2 years) of shaving (one blade every week) so that is costing me R4 per week inc VAT and delivery for blades.
I’ve made quite a few purchases from River Valley Trading through their Bid or Buy online site over the years, and Mohamed has always been very prompt as well as helpful. As far as price, quality and good service goes, I rate them 5/5 in South Africa, and can highly recommend them to any South Africans.
