Why gamers use WASD keys to move in most FPS (First-Person Shooter) games

I’ve been struggling (maybe impatient is more accurate as I’ve just not put the practice in) to take my movement in first-person shooter games beyond the noob level (apart from WASD there are also run [LSHIFT], crouch [LCTRL], jump [SPACE], lean left/right [Q/E], prone [Z]) and whilst looking around for possible alternatives, I noticed this interesting video that explains how WASD came about. And yes, we have inherited an almost standardisation now across most first-person shooter games,

The consensus still seems to be that this is best, so basically I’m just going to have to put my practice time in ;-)
